The average person wouldn’t think that there are places in the world where a picture wouldn’t get them in trouble on a deadly basis, however Miss Iraq posed for an Instagram photo that forced her to flee the country!
Sarah Idan, Miss Iraq posted a photo last month that caused her and her family to flee their homeland after receiving numerous death threats.
So much for diplomacy by selfie.
Idan posed with Miss Israel, Adar Gandelsman, at the Miss Universe International Pagent and controversy broke out.
When Miss Iraq posted it to her Instagram, she captioned, “Peace and Love from Miss Iraq and Miss Israel,” in addition to modeling a bikini.
In another post, Idan apologized to those who thought the photo may be “harmful to the Palestinian cause,” she then clarified that it was not a political statement, but instead meant to “express hope and desire for peace between the two countries,” the paper reported
She went on to add, it “does not signal support for the government of Israel and does not mean I agree or accept its policies in the Arab homeland.”
Iraq does not have any formal diplomatic relations with Israel and the two countries are considered enemies, the paper reported.
Gandelsman said her friend does not regret her decision to post the image to social media, which she has yet to remove from Instagram, reported the paper.
“She did it to so that people can understand that it’s possible to live together,” she said.
We should all be so brave as to be a beacon of hope and peace.
